Honoring Isabel McGarry: Her Impact Today and Forever
Thanks to the philanthropy of Isabel McGarry, young men called to serve the Church as priests can participate in educational and experiential learning opportunities that broaden the horizon of their pastoral experience, deepen their knowledge of the rich traditions they seek to continue, and strengthen their love of God and neighbor.
When she died in 2011, Isabel, who retired as Director of Nursing for the City of Minneapolis, continued her family’s spirit of service by creating a perpetual trust to establish the Reverend Joseph McGarry Memorial Scholarship. This Trust is named in memory of her brother who served as a priest in the Archdiocese of Hartford for 50 years.
The scholarship supports seminarians from the Dioceses of Hartford, Norwich, and Providence studying at PC. This scholarship also furthers the Catholic and Dominican mission of the College through immersive programs like PC’s week-long pilgrimage to Italy “In the Footsteps of St. Thomas Aquinas.” Since her passing in 2011, this trust has supported and will continue to fund generations of students discerning this vocation.
Below is a video message from students who experienced the recent pilgrimage as they share what Isabel’s generosity means to them.
